The Jain temple in Ranakpur is stunning. This temple houses 1444 uniquely carved marble pillars. It was built between the 14th qnd 15th century. One thing I love about India is that there is history everywhere. The temples are always different in architecture and each one stands on its own merit.

As I took this photo there was a direct connection. His eyes and face are so serious but when I showed him the photograph a big grin took over his face and his eyes lit up. That is what I love about photography; the connection you make and the smile you can bring to someones face all through an image.

The desert can be a harsh place but life still continues on as it did thousands of years ago. Passing through a village in the Thar desert of Rajasthan we are reminded of how people still practice and live by the old ways. Colorful Traveling Musician in India
As I walked along the ghats in Udaipur we came across this musician resting before heading to the Shilpgram Festival. The color of his turban and the intensity in his eyes draw you in. While I chatted with him about his show he informed me that he tries to come to Udaipur each year because it is so peaceful. Travel photography can really help you get to know the people and teach you a little bit about their culture at the same time.

The Taj Mahal in Agra, India. Everyone knows it but not everyone has seen it. We were the first ones in that day which really allowed us to see it in all it’s splendor without the crowds. It is a wonder of the world and photographing it in black and white brings out the Taj Mahal’s majesty.

Traveling with a New Camera: The Hurdles
After deciding on the Panasonic GH1 the next step was to learn my way around the camera. It is always good to learn a little bit about your camera before hitting the road. Unfortunately I did not heed my own advice. Packing and organizing my life just took up too much time. So as I sit here in India I am trying to learn my way around a new camera system on the fly. Not recommended.
